The Great Debate: Twilight vs. Harry Potter

The Battle Begins! The World Phenomenas Collide! Ever since Twilight made it onto the scene, fantasy fans are constantly debating whose stories are better than the others. Either way Team Dumbledore or Team Edward, people are reading. Yet the fight for popularity never ends.

Time Magazine has announced their Five Reasons Why Harry Potter is Better than Twilight.

1. A Better Universe
In the wizarding world we know everything: from what they eat, their prejudices, and all of the main and supporting characters. Compared with Twilight, we only know that Good vampires don't bite. Vampires and Werewolves don't like each other. And Vampires like baseball.
2. Better Acting
In the HP films the werewolf is played by British thespian David Thewlis. Whereas Lautner is only known for his workout regimen.
3. Better Villains
In HP Voldemort is the scariest villain to walk the earth. He kills for immortality. Whereas Twilight villains are weak, for example: Cam Gigandet (what is this, the OC?)
4. Healthier Attitude Toward Sex
In HP no one talks about sex at all. Best friends may fall in love, but they do not fall for sexual tensions. Twilight talks sex all the time (how wonderful, horrible, and bad it would be).
5. It's Lasted Longer
We have grown up with the HP series. Each release has become a serious event. Plus we wouldn't ever feel embarrassed to let our little sisters read it. Twilight has only been out since 2005 (the sixth HP was released the same year). The Twilight movies have been rushed into production, only in case of the trend dissipating. Twilight is commercial, unlike the cultural Harry Potter.

There are very few articles raving about Twilight being better than Harry Potter, but during the Great Debate in a Seattle library Twi-hards gave their views on the saga. According to the girls there was prejudice, "Prejudice, that's something we can relate to. That's why Twilight is better." Victoria was a villain and she made vampire babies(um...Why?). They talked of the treatment of women. The girls mentioned Bella, because they could relate to her experiences. They said reading the book made them feel like they were seeing the world through Bella's eyes. They said the books are more popular because of relativity, reality to life, and the perfect fantasy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uobJzYIFeA

There are many fan sites, showing the love of each subject like: Average Wizard and My Life is Twilight. Here are a few posts:

Average Wizard:
  • Today I was walking home from school. I then saw three kids dressed up as Harry, Hermione, and Ron running down the street being chased by a man who looked about fifty dressed up as Snape, who was screaming "GET BACK HERE, POTTER!" I'm not sure what just happened, but I want in.
  • While discussing writing styles of authors, a girl wearing a Team Jacob shirt in my Creative Writing class told me, "Harry Potter is just weird". I said," When Harry falls in love with Ron and Hermione's baby, then she could talk."
My Life is Twilight
  • Today I made out with a large Siberian husky, because he reminded me of Jacob.
  • The first thing I did in 2010 was kiss my Edward cardboard cut-out.
Personally, I am a biased Potter- fan. I love the series, and find many more meaningful themes within the books. I love the depth of the characters personalities and the plot. I love the fandom including Mugglenet.com, AverageWizard, and A Very Potter Musical.
